When Drywall Must Be Removed vs. Dried and Saved
The right call depends on the water source, saturation level, and how long it's been wet.
Drywall Can Be Saved When
- The water source is clean (Category 1 — supply line, rainwater)
- Saturation is limited and the drywall is still structurally sound
- Drying begins within 24–48 hours of the loss
- Moisture meters confirm the wall cavity dries completely
Drywall Must Be Removed When
- The water is Category 2 or 3 (gray water or sewage)
- Drywall is sagging, crumbling, or visibly moldy
- It's been wet for more than 48–72 hours — mold risk is high
- Insulation behind the drywall is saturated and can't be dried
Our Drywall Water Damage Process
Moisture Assessment
Meters and thermal imaging determine the extent of saturation behind and within the drywall.
Flood Cuts
Where needed, we remove drywall to the flood line — typically 12–24 inches above the water line.
Cavity Drying
We dry the exposed wall cavity with air movers and dehumidifiers to prevent mold growth.
Replacement
New drywall, texture matching, and paint — restored to pre-loss condition with documentation.
Mold Risk After Drywall Water Damage
Drywall that stays wet for more than 48–72 hours is at high risk for mold growth — especially in South Florida's warm, humid climate, where mold can develop rapidly behind walls. Even after surface drying, trapped moisture in the wall cavity can feed hidden colonies.
Our moisture mapping and cavity drying process is designed to prevent that. We also offer mold remediation services — our dedicated mold page is coming soon pending compliance verification. In the meantime, if you suspect mold after water damage, call us immediately for assessment.
